| Additional Comments | International HpB/Liver Transplant Fellowship Program, St Vincent’s University Hospital, Dublin, Ireland Program Overview: Program Duration: The International HpB/Liver transplant fellowship program spans over 2 years. Accreditation: Accredited by IHPBA/UEMS Program Director: Professor Emir Hoti, Consultant Hepatobiliary, Transplant Surgeon Eligibility Requirements: • Completion of an accredited general surgery residency program. • Eligibility for medical licensure in Ireland. • Demonstration of interest and commitment to HpB/liver transplantation through prior experience, research, or elective rotations. Program Components: 1. Clinical Experience: • Active participation in the evaluation and management of patients with liver or pancreatic disorders, including pre-treatment assessment, surgical planning, and post-operative care. • Hands-on experience in evaluating and managing liver transplant candidates, from pre-transplant assessments to surgical procedures and post-operative care. • Exposure to complex cases such as deceased donor liver transplantation, re-transplantation, and combined pancreas/kidney transplantation. 2. Surgical Training: • Direct involvement in HpB/liver transplant surgeries under the guidance of experienced transplant surgeons. • Emphasis on refining surgical techniques, perioperative management, and making critical surgical decisions. 3. Multidisciplinary Care: • Collaboration with hepatologists, transplant hepatologists, transplant coordinators, social workers, and other healthcare professionals involved in the transplant process. • Participation in multidisciplinary HpB/transplant team meetings to discuss patient care strategies and outcomes. 4. Research and Scholarly Activities: • Opportunities to conduct clinical research projects focusing on HpB/liver transplantation, outcomes research, transplant immunology, and advancements in surgical techniques. • Presentation of research findings at national and international conferences and publication in peer-reviewed journals. 5. Education and Teaching: • Contribution to the education of medical students, residents, and healthcare professionals interested in liver transplantation. • Participation in educational conferences, seminars, and journal clubs to foster continuous learning and professional development. 6. Quality Improvement and Patient Safety: • Engagement in quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing transplant outcomes and patient safety. • Adherence to regulatory requirements and rigorous adherence to transplant center protocols. Certification and Career Advancement: • Preparation for certification in HpB and transplant surgery through the UEMS certifying bodies. • Acquisition of advanced skills and knowledge necessary for pursuing academic careers, leadership roles in HpB and transplant centers, or clinical practice in liver transplantation.
