Krishnakumar Madhavan

Professor Krishnakumar Madhavan is an internationally recognized leader in liver and pancreatic surgery, and in the field of organ transplantation, with a distinguished career spanning more than four decades across Asia and the United Kingdom. He earned his MBBS from the University of Poona in 1979, followed by an MS in General Surgery from the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh in 1981. He was awarded the FRCS by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1989.

Currently he holds the position of Professor Emeritus at the National University of Singapore, is the immediate Past President of the Asia-Pacific Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (A-PHPBA), and a current elected member of Council at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. His previous leadership roles include Head of the Department of Surgery at both the National University Health System and the National University of Singapore, Director of the Singapore National Liver Transplant Programme, and Co-Director of the National University Centre for Organ Transplantation. He also served as a Consultant Surgeon with the Lothian NHS Trust at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

Professor Madhavan’s research interests focus on hepatocellular carcinoma—particularly its genomics, biomarkers, and treatment modalities—as well as liver transplantation techniques, portal hypertension, and the management of acute and chronic pancreatitis. In recognition of his clinical and academic excellence, he has received numerous honors, including the NUHS Mochtar Riady Pinnacle Master Clinician Award (2015) and the NUHS Distinguished Senior Clinician Award (2018).
